Kuroshitsuji Manga Begins English Run in Yen Plus Mag (Updated)

ANN has confirmed that the August issue of Yen Plus magazine has begun the English serialization of Yana Toboso’s Kuroshitsuji manga series under the name Black Butler this week. The title character is Sebastian Michaelis, an impeccable butler who can carry out practically any task his master requires of him — partly because he is a demon. His current master is Ciel, the Phantomhive family head who is smart, business-savvy, and all of 12 years old. The publisher Yen Press had hinted in a Wednesday blog entry that a new title will adorn the Japanese side of the magazine issue’s double-sided cover. The action situational comedy story has been running in Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine since 2006, and seven volumes have been compiled and published. Director Toshiya Shinohara and Aniplex’s A-1 Pictures Inc. adapted the manga into a television anime series that ran in Japan from October of 2008 to March of 2009. Yen Press is marking the one-year anniversary of its Yen Plus magazine with a pull-out poster from Maximum Ride, another title that runs in the magazine. It is also now offering half-year subscriptions instead of one-year subscriptions, due to reader feedback. Source: LKK on ANN, AnimeOnDVD forums via Kuriousity

Stan Lee’s ‘Heroman’ To Appear In Shonen Gangan July 11th, 2009

Stan Lee's 'Heroman' To Appear In Shonen Gangan

Anime Vice reports that Shonen Gangan will be including Stan Lee’s Heroman manga in its content in the next issue on August 12.

This story seems to be a mash-up between American super heroes and giant robots. Basically, this boy finds a toy robot that somehow becomes huge and turns into Heroman, a giant robot that beats the hell out of evil things (like your dog).

Makes you wonder what else Stan Lee will do in Japan next, doesn’t it?

Farewell Shojo Beat May 19th, 2009

Farewell Shojo Beat

It seems like a lot of publishers are canceling their monthly magazines publication (thanks for nothing EGM, a little hint would’ve been nice) since the economy has been getting worse. Unfortunately, Viz has just recently announced that the July issue of “Shojo Beat” will be the last.

Those who subscribe to “Shojo Beat” will receive a free copy of August “Shonen Jump” with details of the remaining subscription with the option of opting for a refund of remaining credit.

The Website and graphic novel will continue as usual. Here’s what a Viz spokesperson has to say regarding the cancellation:

“We are very proud of the past issues of Shojo Beat magazine and the efforts of the entire team [...] The magazine developed quite a fan base but unfortunately in today’s difficult economic climate we felt the need to place our resources elsewhere at this time.”
