Ayumi Hamasaki fans should remember that last month, Ayu made a surprise visit in Shibuya to promote her book, “Ayu no dejideji nikki 2000 – 2009A”, and new album, “NEXT LEVEL”. Unfortunately, the police are investigating the publicity since they’re accusing of Ayu and her manager for not obtaining proper permits prior to the promotion.
About 8,000 fans appeared to see Ayu which lead to temporary blocked roads. On top of that, Ayu made surprise visits in to other stores by car before reaching 109 in Shibuya. Despite the fact that promotion took place in stores, the police argues that Ayu’s manager should’ve obtained a permit for using the roads. As a result, the police have forwarded the matter to the prosecutor to interrogate Ayu’s manager and herself.
It’s easy to understand the police’s concern for the public safety; however, there were no reports of injuries. It’s highly unlikely that any of the business owners in Shinbuya would be upset about the surprise visit from Ayu since they could have received higher sales that day. So why would the police make such a big deal about this?
Is it for money? Is it to show that even celebrities have to follow the law? Or is it plain ignorance? Whatever the reason is, the police certainly have done one thing – more free publicity for Ayu.
