Looks like Sony is getting ready to take over the hand held consoles market with the new PSP Go. If you prefer to view a video about the PSP Go, check out the video at the end. Otherwise, read on friends.
It features a 3.8-inch screen compared to the 4.3-inch screen that the orginal PSP has. If you’re looking forward to play your original PSP UMD games on the new PSP Go, you might not want to hold your breath for long. It doesn’t have a UMD drive; however, it does have an internal 16 GB memory that you can expand via Memory Stick Micro card.
Okay, not having the UMD drive isn’t a bad thing. That means the PSP Go may have a better battery life. But if you have a huge library of PSP games, that may not be such great news. Many of you have been hoping for a second analog stick, so Sony listened and added that right? Right?
Well, the PSP Go control almost resembles the original Sony Dual Shock controller. It does have space for the second analog stick, however the SELECT and START buttons occupy that area. So no, it does not have what the majority of loyal Sony PSP fans have been asking for.
The PSP Go does add another arsenal to its Wi-Fi capabilities — bluetooth. Not only can you connect to your PS3, it’s possible to connect to other bluetooth hardware. Imagine printing images from your PSP through a bluetooth printer or using a bluetooth headset as you’re playing an online game with friends. Even better, what if you could browse the Web by connecting to your bluetooth enabled cellphone on a 3G network. The latter hasn’t been announced officially but it’s possible. Of course, you could browse the Web using Wi-Fi but what are you going to do if there isn’t any available?
As far as media support goes, it’s practically identical to the PSP.
So here’s the more important information you want to know. The price for the PSP Go has not been officially announced, but the launch date has. Expect to see the PSP Go on store shelves this fall. What about the games?
[...] Koller specifically mentions PSP versions of Little Big Planet, Jak and Daxter, Gran Turismo, and “a new Metal Gear Solid.” Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier had been previously announced and a PSP Gran Turismo was originally shown off way back at E3 2004. A PSP-optimized Little Big Planet has been all but confirmed, and a new MGS game will likely be welcomed with open arms (assuming it’s more like the action-packed Portable Ops and less like the bizarre Metal Gear Acid).
